Spring News Update

April 1, 2016

Dear Dallas Community families,

I hope that each of you had a good Spring Break. We kicked off our 3rd and final enrichment class schedule for the school year this week. It takes us a full week of classes to work out the logistical bugs, i.e., new kids, new schedules, new community educators, new room set up requirements, etc., etc., and as always we so appreciate your patience during that process.

The Dallas Community School District board of directors has voted to increase our student population for the 2016-17 school year by 25%. That translates into 31 new students to give us a school population of 156. We are accepting applications for the 2016-17 school year through the end of April. If you haven’t completed your reenrollment form for the 2016-17 school year please do. All applications will be included in the lottery, which will take place in May. All applicants will be informed of their enrolled or waitlisted status when completed.

Smarter Balance testing will start next week for our morning onsite students. We are also working to reserve space to accommodate some of our off site students and will give you more details as soon as we have worked out the final logistics. Direct any testing questions to your guides. There is still time to opt out of testing, but you will need to have the form in to your guide or to the DCS office by April 11th. Students can practice testing by follow this link http://oaksportal.org/. Be sure to sign in as “Guest,” select a grade, and choose either an English or math test with “SB” beside it.

By way of reminder our last official day of school is June 17th. DCS extended its calendar one week beyond that of Dallas SD due to our afternoon enrichment schedule, which is built on 6 and 12 week sessions. We have also scheduled an end of year DCS pool party at the Dallas Aquatic Center on the 17th from 1 to 3PM. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us. More information will be coming your way as the day draws near.

As always if you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to call, e-mail or stop by school.

Regards,

Dennis Schultz

DCS Director
