Enrichment Classes

Enrichment classes and availability will be posted for your viewing on Course Storm beginning August 29th. Families will be given opportunities to talk with Guides about Enrichment choices during the 1st meeting with them. Please be thinking about the best fit and top class priorities for your student and have them ready for discussion.

Message from the Director

Dear Dallas Community families,
It was early June when I last sent out an informational message to you all. Since that time we have hired a new program manager, Miranda Long, who will oversee the afternoon enrichment program and more. She has been busy in July understanding the program, rekindling relationships with our community educators and researching new possibilities. Andrea has been busy creating the DCS library, which includes curriculum and other noncomsumables purchased with allotment funds and used by you in support of student learning. If your materials have not been cataloged be sure to contact Andrea in August to make arrangements to have it entered into the library and be available to check back out. Here are a few other updates to know about:

Open Registration
We have scheduled an open registration period for August 9 and 10 from 10 AM – 3 PM. Drop by the school site, 788 SW Birch St., and take care of updating records. New DCS families will have some additional forms to fill out. If you are unavailable during this time please let Andrea know so other arrangements can be made. This will also be an opportunity to ask questions as Miranda and I will be onsite.

Morning Program Update
The morning program will go on offering flexible options for those of you that took advantage of it last year. For students in grades 1-5 we will continue to offer a 4-day option (8 AM-12 noon) which will include an hour of math to start the day. If your student doesn’t need math instruction but wants to be at the school all 4-days that’s fine. They will simply begin their day at 9 AM. We will also offer a 2-day, Monday/Wednesday and a Tuesday/Thursday, option (9 AM -12 noon). Each day students will receive teacher directed language Arts (reading and writing) instruction and support as well as an opportunity for student-guided project-based learning to end each day. Your student will be guided each day by two teachers and a new instructional aide, which we are very close to hiring. Dawn Adams and our aide will be there every day. Cheri Reinke (M/W) and Julie Rain (T/TH), will divide the other days between them.

Middle School Happenings
We will also continue to provide a middle school (two days a week) program, but will be moving it offsite. The two sites we have contacted are nearby. The space in the Foursquare church, 8-blocks away, is available to us on Wednesday and Thursday morning. The morning program will continue to meet from 9 AM – 12 noon. Cindy McGinnis and Shayla Ordonez will be leading the effort.
